Yes this is a new requirement. Canada does not want any immigrants that have poor posture.

It took them almost 10 weeks to process mine in Abu Dhabi and I am going alone as well. They do not respond to emails and faxes so you have to be presitent and send an email/fax on a weekly basis. Tell them that your classes are starting soon and you need to make arrangements for travel.

I was granted my study permit a few days ago and my classes are starting on the 8th of September. However, I cannot leave for Canada until the 13th of September because I have to give notice to my employers etc... If I go after the start of classes will there be any problem with the immigration...

Thanks Guys for all your replies and help. I got my visa and student authorization letter by courier today. @ Sasha: I just wrote them a normal email saying my classes were starting soon and I needed to plan my travel and to please expidiate the processing of my case.
