Yes, I called up cic and got a clear answer from them. Youre right, its optional.

Did any one send their application on or after 15 july? If so, did you use the new checklist? Also, if you did use the new check list, did you fill out a use of representative (IMM 5476) for the sponsor?

Yes it was returned to my canada address. I do not know if its a AOR, when I talked on the phone with the cic agent, she said it was temp uci number. I dont knw what that means either. I hope they dont return it for that!!
