going through the same thing applied for re-issue of passport, I think it's alright. In my case it's happening for the primary applicant(me). you can provide new passport number in the forms and explain it in LOE.

I was asked to get new passport. As my passport had status as single(no spouse name), where as application for PCC said married. I am anyways going for passport re-issue as it ahs just 2 years remaning.

just an update this has changed recently, I was denied PCC today and told to endorse spouse name on passport first.
