I applied for my mother in law extension on 14 march 2016 and she got approved 4 April 2016. I don't know why your is taking that long. they even sent the visitor record which I received 2 days ago.I applied online. The only thing she has to do is medical examination and she did it today.

If you are applying for super visa, yes you do need medical insurance that can cover up to 100 000 dollars. but if its just a simple TRV, you don't need it. For the ticket you can just do a prebooking to any travel agent. its free

Hi I received an email from CIC saying that my mother in law application has been approved, and that a secure document has been sent to my address. But still she will have to undergo medical examination as required. So the whole extension process took less than 3 weeks. So why others take longer?

If you want to apply for Super visa yes you will have to buy medical health insurance, but if you decide to only for the simple TRV health medical insurance is non required.
