When landing in Canada do I need to claim our items eventhough...

Hey, Lemondrop78-- we recently landed (5/22/13) and I think I can answer some questions. You can search the "US Outland" thread for several posts regarding how to export your car from the US and then import it, and BOTH have to be done! US Customs has specific hours to process your van out of...

    US outland applicants' thread :)

Congrats! If our experience is any indicator, only high $ value goods need to be itemized. Because gold values are high, I listed (and photographed) each piece of jewelry of "significant" value (more than $100). Hubby itemized his musical equipment--guitars, amps, etc. We also itemized...

Los Angeles Visa Office Applicants Check in here! :)

Hey,DTH--I would definitely update her address with CIC and with the L.A. Visa Office. They will mail the COPR to her, and you'll want it at the right address. I'm from a visa-exempt country and didn't receive any notification that COPR had been approved. It arrived in the U.S. via certified...

    US outland applicants' thread :)

My husband is from Winnipeg, MB. In the States, he would often respond to the question "Where's Winnipeg?" by saying, "North of North Dakota." Many times the response was, "But there's nothing north of North Dakota!" Just like the map shows! ;D

Starting New Bank Account - required documents

Most of the big banks have "newcomer to Canada" programs that make it easy to open an account. All I needed at our local CIBC branch in Vancouver was my U.S. passport with the COPR. I suggest you check out what banks are in the area where you think you'll be living, then look on their websites...

    opening bank account

Lucio--The SIN is issued by the federal (Canadian) government, not by the province (Quebec or Ontario). You can apply for your SIN at any Service Canada office in Montreal; the number will be issued on the spot and the card will be mailed to you at your brother's place in about 10 business...

    LATE PR CARD

As of May 29, 2013 the "average" processing time for processing new PR cards is 63 calendar days: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm-card.asp If you're over 63 days, then keep calling! If not, I think you need to wait (sorry!).

NO PR CARD AFTER 3 MONTHS OF LANDING

Thanks, Asbereth! The CSBA agent at the border indicated it might be more than 4 MONTHS before I receive my PR card! 63 days is a much more manageable number! ;)

Canuck20--I join you in thanking all participants on these forums. I'm worn out from packing, moving, unpacking and all, but ever so VERY grateful to be "home" in Canada at last! :) p.s. Where is the Sarnia Blue Water Bridge? Sounds lovely!

LANDED! We came yesterday (22 May) by auto and trailer to the Aldergrove, B.C. office (east of Vancouver, B.C. in dairy & blueberry country). The CIC officers were courteous and friendly, and processed all our paperwork in about 30 minutes or less. And we had a LOT of papers. My husband was...

Nerves on the Verge of Landing

    CPP-Ottawa

We'll be landing the 22nd with a car, a U-Haul truck, two cats, and a VERY tired Canadian spouse and US applicant! The biggest tip I've found from these forums is to FULLY complete all the paperwork first, esp. your B4 lists of goods to be "imported." Are you importing your US car to Canada...

Nerves on the Verge of Landing

Re: Reply: Nerves on the Verge of Landing Thanks, CdnandTrini! I may have my original passport, but I've probably packed it! ??? However, I have my entire application (including passport pages) scanned to CD, which I'm bringing to the border, together with a copy of my letter to the LA...

Nerves on the Verge of Landing

Thanks, Swede. The expiry date on the COPR is 16 August 2013 (one year after medicals). So yes, I'm probably good, and yes it would have been nice to resolve this at the border before the actual move. We were fortunate to be able to sell our house 48 hours (!) after listing it for sale, but a...

Nerves on the Verge of Landing

Well, we've sold our house, one car, and half our "stuff," quit my job here in Portland, and rented an apartment in Vancouver. Next Tuesday the big U-Haul will be here and off we go to B.C. and landing. I HOPE! Here's the rub: I renewed my US passport after submitting my app. When the LA...

Got COPR! Landing questions and vehicle concerns

Anyone imported a car to B.C.? We are planning to land on May 21-22. Hubby will be driving up to Vancouver for a couple days one week prior to get a few things settled. We were thinking about exporting & importing his Oregon-plated car at that time. Questions: Can we simply "export" the car...
