My other visa is a multiple entry V-1 visa, which expires in 2029. I applied for it way back in 2020, prior to the pandemic, and then it was approved after more than a year after getting the student visa approval.

I got a student permit extension last year and am thinking of flying out of Canada for a vacation. Since my student visa (TRV) is no longer valid, I wonder if I can use my other visa, which is a tourist visa, just to re-enter Canada. Any thoughts, guys?

Welcome. Just apply for student permit extension before your existing student permit expires. If there's a co-op or practicum included for your 2-year program apply also for a work permit. You can find the procedure in IRCC website for detailed guidelines.

You're not changing DLI just the program within the same DLI so you don't need to inform IRCC as per the IRCC guidelines. But it is best to change it inside Canada from what I know.

Did you apply already for PGWP? I think if you are doing 1+1 program in the same province there is a possibility of awarding you with 3 years of PGWP but I cannot guarantee that as you may have to ask other people who are already in there.
