Once I submit the passport, how many days does CIC takes to return it back to me?

Can someone tel me whats the next stage after MR?.. Do we need to submit our Passport to CIC any time? I'm planning to go to my home country for vacation for a month during mid Jan to mid Feb. Would like to check b4 booking my tickets. Does anyone foresee any issue?
