Success story - Crossing the border before submitting spousal application

Yep. We get the money back when he returns to the border but it was a hit for us financially. I certainly didn't expect them to be so harsh either... it was just awful. Are you sure we can send the app without the FBI clearance? How do I get it matched up with the rest of our app if I send it...

Success story - Crossing the border before submitting spousal application

Wow. If only we could have been so lucky. My husband and I drove up from Florida together and they wouldn't let him through at the border despite having our marriage certificate, receipt of payment for application fees and our almost entirely completed application with us. He essentially told us...

How long after sending app until it will show in the "system" that we applied?

Will do. I've got a copy of our entire app with the exception of our pictures... hopefully it'll all be enough. Thank you for the luck.

I hope that will be enough. Thank you for the luck!

How long after sending app until it will show in the "system" that we applied?

I know it's a 91 day processing time for the sponsor but it takes that long just to show you've filed?? :(

How long after sending app until it will show in the "system" that we applied?

My husband is here on a 3 month visitor Visa. The border officers were extremely reluctant to let him in (we were held at the border for hours and had to pay a bond in order to finally get him through) because we had not yet SENT our application (despite the fact that I had already paid our...

Documentary Proof... can I put it separately?

Okay... two different answers. lol I think I'm going to refer the person reviewing the app to "envelope number 3" where I'll put all the evidence with sticky notes saying which questions they are documentation for, and clearly labeling all our "extra" stuff.

Documentary Proof... can I put it separately?

When answering the questions on the sponsorship forms that ask for pictures and documentation of our wedding, trips, etc. do I have to include those with the form or can I put them separately? I was going to include 1 envelope with the sponsor's forms, 1 envelope with the sponsored person's...

Are ALL the forms supposed to have that "Validate" button? And one other Q...

I only see "validate" on the Application to Sponsor and Generic Application Form for Canada. Are those the only two that are supposed to have it? Also, if my husband co-signed our lease and is giving me money to pay the rent, is that something I should include in our application or should I...

What will happen if we didn't include the FBI clearance letter?

Thank you! You were very helpful... and I totally forgot about the clearance letter only being 3 months. For some reason I thought it was 9 or 12.

What will happen if we didn't include the FBI clearance letter?

My husband got his FBI clearance letter back in January. He gave it to me in Feb and despite being positive that I put it with all our other documentation, it has gone missing. We tried to come into Canada today, he as a 6 month visitor, but were denied because we have not filed for PR yet as we...

Can my husband work if the cheques are being paid to me?

Thanks for the response... exactly what I was expecting. And no, it is certainly NOT worth the risk!

Can my husband work if the cheques are being paid to me?

I know this is probably illegal but he wants me to ask... my American (and "just visiting until his PR gets approved") husband got an offer to play with a local band. It's a great musical opportunity for him and he really wants to do it but they play often and are paid for it. If he goes and...

Tips for coming across the border with my American husband?

That's reassuring about the extension. And yes, he knows he can't work or get health care here either. Thanks for the response : )

Tips for coming across the border with my American husband?

No, we were planning on doing that next month after he is already staying here.

Tips for coming across the border with my American husband?

At the beginning of June I'm going to fly down to Florida (where my husband lives) and then we will be driving up to Canada together. He's going to be staying with me at my apartment for 6 months and hopefully longer if he can get an extension (side note: does anyone have experience with doing...

If we marry in Jan, will it look "too fast" if we apply in Feb? And 1 more Q...

Thanks to both of you above for your responses. @ AmericaninQuebec; I do know the application and fees related to it for medical checks, etc. will be over $1000. When I say "broke" I don't mean TOTALLY broke... I have a moderately well paying job and we both have some money saved but not enough...

Is marriage the only way? Is this just crazy??

Thanks to everyone's answers, I do appreciate all your input. @ddobro2; we would still be seriously considering marriage even if he was here. Perhaps not within the next two months, but for the last three months or so we've been talking about marrying in the summer. This would just be a little...

Is marriage the only way? Is this just crazy??

100% on wanting to... I know I want to marry him and he knows he wants to marry me. So we are planning for it. The only thing I'm at all apprehensive about is how my dad will react. He thinks the whole thing is just crazy. I love both my boyfriend and my father with all my heart so it's really...

If we marry in Jan, will it look "too fast" if we apply in Feb? And 1 more Q...

We have several pictures, 3 and a half years worth of instant messaging logs (hours each day for most days), emails, phone bills, plane tickets, hotel bills, hand written letters and cards... hoping that will be enough. And of course wedding photos and receipts when we do get married.
