You don't usually require a visa to transit from the UK provided that you have a valid Canadian TRV ( you need a visa for your arrival country) however you need a US transit visa if you want to transit from US. That usually costs $160 and an interview is also required.

No, they haven't even updated my application for biometrics completed or medical passed ( i did upfront medicals).

That's more than 90 days I think you should discuss this with your institution and if that's possible without invalidating your study permit

This message wasn't there when I applied but I contacted them I got my application number and biometrics request but no reply.

No, you can't take 1 year off because after 90 days of your studies end the study permit becomes invalid and taking a break means you are not enrolled in any course that counts as not studying

Seems they are having technical issues and that's beyond our control, hopefully that doesn't delay our applications. Most time consuming are background checks and once they are completed I don't think eligibility will take time. Good luck with your application.

I think you should scan your biometrics receipt and send that with IRCC webform explaining your situation. Btw what's your eligibility status are they reviewing it or no?
