Need Help On How To Start Sponsorship For US Wife

I am very confused after looking at the government website as I'm not good with all that stuff, and I have no idea on where to start first? If someone would be willing to walk us through the process that would be very kind. Quick facts: She came to Canada to visit me on June 30 2013 with a one...

Thanks katester! This will be good news to her as she thought it would be the full invasive type exam that she would prefer a female doc for etc..

Does anyone know what the medical exam entails? My fiance is not so comfortable with male doctors she said, and it would seem the only authorized person to perform the exam near to us here is male. Is it the full head to toe ordeal lol, or just some blood work and and a x-ray etc? Thanks :)

Did you have it done at the Commissionaires ? I called the RCMP here in Moncton NB and they said they don't know anything about sending a background check for the FBI etc..

Thank you! Yes she had one extension of 6 months so she is here legally as a visitor for a year till June 30th. She flew here with a one way ticket on July 1 2013 (yes they almost didn't let her through), and we applied for the extension before her 6 months was up and asked for another 6 months...

Hello, My fiance and I will be getting married here in Canada on June 22nd. She is from the US and has been living with me here in Canada since July 1 2013. We applied for the extension to her visit so all is legal and she is set to go back to the US on June 30th. At that point she will have...

That was a lot you both had to go through! I hope the same doesn't happen to us as we are about a 24hr drive apart and my job doesn't have those same perks and leeway to get away as much. It's good they updated you in their system and I hope that all goes well from here on in for you guys...

    US outland applicants' thread :)

Sure we will let everyone know if I find out the info on how long each calendar year one can stay. Re the visit question: We met in June and I bought her a one way ticket to come here for July 1st 2013. I had asked a travel agent if that may pose a problem and she seem to not think so. We...

The return ticket would be for coming back here though. She's here as a visitor from Chicago with a one year stay, then we would get a ticket for a roundtrip back to Canada after a few weeks back in Chicago.

No you didn't add to our stress and I thank you for all your time and info responding :) It's just a stressful process as you know. Wondering if when we purchase a plane ticket for her to go back to Chicago at the end of June with a return back here a few weeks later, then add in the gamble if...

    US outland applicants' thread :)

Thanks for the info :) Now I we are worried as we would like to be together not apart for long term other than a few weeks. We did it all by the book and did the extension. Now what to do to stay together without the insecurity of wondering if she will be let back in again, not to mention the...

Oh okay well that may change things a bit, yikes! I was reading people saying that a person just has to go back to the US when their time to stay here in Canada is up, then come back into Canada and their allowance to stay as a visitor would start all over again?

Thanks for the response and info rhcohen2014. Visiting while application is being processed is what I meant. My fiance came to visit me last July and we applied for an extension before her 6 month allowed visit would have been up, so now she has till June 30th to stay here and will have lived...

Hope it's okay to ask this question here? I read before somewhere that to sponsor outland you needed to go with your partner to the US and then bring them back into Canada together and do all the speaking to convince the agent to let your spouse through, is this true? Can you have your partner...

Wondering What We Should Do? US/Canada Couple

Thanks QuebecOkie. You were a great help and we appreciate it :) I think for our situation then we would most likely find some private insurance so she is covered for her stay until the day she can be covered under our healthcare here etc. Just to recheck what people may think here's what we...

Canadian citizen wanting to live common law with American in Canada

Hello, No one can hold you hostage to a marriage in Canada. All you need is to have lived apart for one year and want your marriage over. It doesn't matter if your partner still wants to stay married to you at all, you can end it after one year not living under the same roof etc.

Wondering What We Should Do? US/Canada Couple

Thanks canuck. We've decided that she will go home to visit at the end of June when her extension expires and then come back a few weeks later. Then when she is here again we will file the sponsorship and immigration package.. On a different note what do people do to be covered by medical when...

Wondering What We Should Do? US/Canada Couple

Thank you Avadava for your response and advice :) We wished we could have known when we applied for her extended stay that we could have asked for longer. We searched the government sites and couldn't really find any definitive answers and so we just asked for a six month extension which was...
