Been travelling for one year. Do I need to send a police certificate?

I'm British, applying for PR through the spousal route. Husband is Canadian. We currently live in Alberta. We recently returned to Canada after one year travelling. Prior to that I was in Canada on an IEC visa for two consecutive years. For my IEC visa I had to submit police certificates from...

Can I leave Canada while applying for PR?

Thanks SchnookoLoly, that was an extremely helpful reply. I'm still stumped on the people who received their PR so quickly though. They weren't talking about the work permit either. I shall ask them more questions as I am baffled. I'm not desperate to work. I'm pregnant (baby due November) and...

Can I leave Canada while applying for PR?

Yes, I realise if you apply through London you're applying Outland. I was just saying that 29 months is longer than the average of stage two for inland applications. Yet everyone is advised to go Outland. Thanks for clarifying that this is in fact an "average" and has increased due to the...

Can I leave Canada while applying for PR?

Thanks SchnookoLoly, I followed the links in your signature and the current processing time for Outland applications through the London office looks to be 62 days for stage one, plus 29 months for stage two. That's longer than what's stated if you apply inland.

Can I leave Canada while applying for PR?

If I submit an Outland application, can I still enter my Canadian address as 'home address' and put my Canadian phone number? The address will be the same as my Canadian spouse.

Can I leave Canada while applying for PR?

Thanks again Jalex and Rob. Rob, I absolutely wouldn't lie at a border crossing. I'm a terrible liar and simply can't and wouldn't do it. I'm all for 100% honesty and transparency (as you may be able to tell from my unnecessarily lengthy posts -sorry!) I just wanted to confirm you were not...

Can I leave Canada while applying for PR?

Thank you Jalex and Rob for your quick replies. It still seems fairly vague and uncertain. Jalex, you say the PR application is unrelated... And I need to prove I am a "genuine visitor" at the border. This is confusing, as surely I need to be honest and tell them I am not a visitor at all but...

Can I leave Canada while applying for PR?

Hello, I'm British, living in Alberta and will soon be applying for PR (spousal route - inland application) and want to know the rules/regs and advice on leaving Canada to visit England for a couple of weeks. I've heard conflicting information. Background info I've already paid my full fee for...

Time limit between fee payment and submitting application?

Thank you so much for the quick reply. So glad there is no time limit and great to know I can apply online for an extension. Will they send a document to confirm the extension? How does it work? I will have to extend my health care at the same time, but they'll need to see the new expiry date in...

Time limit between fee payment and submitting application?

Hello, My questions are: 1. Is there a time limit between paying your fee for permanent residency and submitting the application package along with the receipt? 2. What is the best way to extend/renew a Visitor Record when it expires? Background info and elaborating on questions above... My...

Brit married to Canadian. Don't have PR. Pregnancy and visa questions.

Wow, thanks Rob, that's all really helpful info and advice. Much appreciated. Are there any potential repercussions if I apply as an outlander when I am in fact living inside of Canada when I make the application? Surely that's not allowed? Thanks again!

Brit married to Canadian. Don't have PR. Pregnancy and visa questions.

Thanks margobear, really appreciate all the info. Unfortunately we are not in a position to start the application as like I said I want to renew my passport in my new married name first, and while we are travelling I can't do that. Also, we think it is best to have an address in Alberta and for...

Brit married to Canadian. Don't have PR. Pregnancy and visa questions.

Further to the above... Is it actually too risky to request a visitor record, (incase they refuse, just give three months or worse case send me to the UK?) and in fact just enter with a six month stamp and in that time begin the residency application, and Alberta will give me the health care? I...

Brit married to Canadian. Don't have PR. Pregnancy and visa questions.

Hello again, It's getting closer now to our return to Canada (early March) and we have some questions about the 'visitor record'... How likely is it that we can obtain this with just the forms, supporting docs such as marriage certificate and my previous temporary work permit, joint bank...

Brit married to Canadian. Don't have PR. Pregnancy and visa questions.

Thanks again, Leon, for all the helpful info. It's sounding quite promising. We'll prepare as much as we can before we fly back next Spring. You suggest Alberta may be much more lenient with health care; Do you think - following all the same advice you have given above - that it would be...

Brit married to Canadian. Don't have PR. Pregnancy and visa questions.

Thank you so much Leon for such a helpful and informative reply. Would we need anything in particular at the border for my husband to say he is sponsoring me so I can get a visa for up to one year? How can we prove that upon entry? Doing the paperwork for sponsorship now would certainly be...

Brit married to Canadian. Don't have PR. Pregnancy and visa questions.

My husband is Canadian Citizen. I am British. Together 4.5 years, married for 1.5 years. Previously lived in UK and Calgary, AB - each with 2 year temporary work permits for the others country. Most recently we lived in Alberta until March 2014 when we began a one year "around-the-world" trip -...
