    American Medical Exam, Obamacare

I totally agree its insane. I am being sponsored from California to Alberta which is probably much less in demand than people coming from the east. Those docs have a captive audience over by you so they charge so much :( lemme know!!

    American Medical Exam, Obamacare

That's extremely strange that it's so expensive. I called LA and San Diego and they were both like $200-$250 max. I had the hugest level of insurance with blue cross anthem and they still wouldn't cover it....and to their credit, why should they? It's a purely elective thing that if we want to...

    American Medical Exam, Obamacare

Absolutely not. Insurance, no matter what kind you have does not cover this specific immigration medical exam. It's an elective exam so it's out of pocket. You should not pay more than $200 though. Honestly, the small payment to get approved to be in Canada is more than worth it :)

Applying Outland - US, which Visa office will it go through?

Your Stage 1 Sponsor Approval is done in Mississauga, Ontario. After your sponsor is approved, they forward the rest of your application and proof to Ottowa to be processed for Stage 2. If for some reason they see evidence of fraud or things that need clarification or investigation, I believe...

    New Citizenship Act Question

Ok thanks, I was just wondering if it was effective immediately for everyone doing their PR time, or if they made a cut off date where people who get PR before that date are still on the 3/4 year deal. This is such a bummer :( Thanks!

    New Citizenship Act Question

I have been reading about the new citizenship act that might pass sometime this year. I currently have a permanent resident application pending (it will probably be approved in a few months). If the new citizenship law passes, will it be retroactive to people who are currently working on their...

Getting nervous to cross the border--- TIPS?

Because at that point they wanted admission of SOMETHING because this stupid agent was CONVINCED that I was up to something and she was not letting anything happen until I admitted what she thought I was trying to do. The joke is on her ultimately, I ended up flying home in exactly the timeframe...

Getting nervous to cross the border--- TIPS?

Of course, I am not saying he should volunteer information. This is under the pretense that he gets called into secondary and is specifically asked more questions regarding his "visit".

Getting nervous to cross the border--- TIPS?

Nooo, I said for him to say he will be staying in Canada on his 6-month visitor's record visa (which can be obtained at the border and is an actual piece of paper) while he intends to apply for permanent residence.

Getting nervous to cross the border--- TIPS?

No I was not moving to Canada. I actually left a month after coming because I still have a residence in California. I had no furniture with me or none of my household belongings. I actually was adamant on saying "visiting" my husband for a few months.

Getting nervous to cross the border--- TIPS?

Saying you will be "moving" to Canada when you have no right to do that, puts you at the whim of the CBSA officer. They are 100% in the right to deny you entry at that point. Just because they took pity on you in the end doesn't mean anything at all. You misread my story about crossing. I...

Getting nervous to cross the border--- TIPS?

I cannot stress enough for you to be honest at the border. Do not listen to anyone that tells you to "omit" information or state different intentions. Let them work with you. They are happy to work with you at this border, the head guy there is really nice.

Getting nervous to cross the border--- TIPS?

I recommend being 100% honest at the border. These agents are TRAINED to detect lies. And they are extremely good at it. I was being honest in my crossing but sort of evading the truth that I would be staying for the PR process. They caught it 100%. Remember, this is their job to verify people...

Getting nervous to cross the border--- TIPS?

This was a previous posting by me: MY EXPERIENCE LAST WEEK- I will tell you EXACTLY what happened when crossing a border last week. This was by land going into Alberta from Montana. Canadian husband is sponsoring me (American wife) as a spouse. We did not yet submit our application but had...
