I doubt it really matters, since if the passport was made before your marriage date. Note if you do change it, than you also have to let CIC know about the new changes of the passport expiry, etc. So assuming that you make a change to it, it may even delay the app process.

I believe they look for Debts towards the Goverment, if your on Welfare, and if you declare bankruptcy. That may cause a issue. But i currently still owe OSAP so i think you should be fine.
