    CERB as visitor

Hi all, can I apply for CERB as a visitor? Quick summary of my situation: The pandemic has totally disrupted my work visa application timeline. I worked in Can for two years, then left shortly and came back as tourist for a few weeks (my life and apartment are here, etc). I have a job here in...

Global skills strategy 2 weeks processing from outside Canada (but can't leave Canada at the moment)

Thanks, last time it was done in 3 days. I know two weeks is only an estimate, but much better than the now estimated four months. I still have not solved this issue despite trying to contact multiple embassies/immigration/consulate/provincial and federal bureau, etc.

Italy. I have contacted immigration Canada but they only deal with ongoing applications which is not my case.

Global skills strategy 2 weeks processing from outside Canada (but can't leave Canada at the moment)

Hi all, I am already in Canada on a eta visa and I have a work contract ready to start in May (as a post-doctoral researcher). I am eligible for the 2 weeks processing through the global skills strategy (I already did this 3 years ago for my first contract), if I apply from outside Canada. I was...

    Dual sim phones?

Hi all, I would like to get a canadian number, but still keep my sim from europe without having two phones to carry. It seems like dual sim phones are not available here and the only option is to buy one 'unlocked' and hope it works with the canadian carrier. Does anyone have experience with...

Free french courses for temporary residents/workers in Montreal?

Hi all, I have read that the Quebec goverment sponsors free french courses for newcomers to Canada. This seems to be the case for permanent residents, but I didn't find any information for temporary residents (I'm on a 2 years foreign worker permit). Thanks for any info, I really would like to...

Postdoctoral fellowship LMIA exempt working permit

I was not asked for police records. Sent it in on Thursday and had it by the next Monday, must be some kind of record. Note that I think my case was easy (coming with my own EU fellowship).

Postdoctoral fellowship LMIA exempt working permit

Update: I did get the two weeks processing! I provided all the required documents (and all extra ones that I thought fitted, including explanation letter), and had contacted the embassy in my own country a few times before submission to ask how it worked. They didn't know anything about the...

Do I need additional private insurace with RAMQ?

Thanks, I have already signed up for the temporary medical insurance for the first three months. As I receive a fellowship from abroad, I do not get supplemental health insurance from an employer, but I will look into an individual dental one or pay out of pocket in case I need any dental...

Monthly transfers salary from Europe to Canada

Premier/Advanced accounts require something like 100.000 $ balance. Transferwise seems to be the best option. How about incoming wires fees though? transferwise says there are no additional fees, but does that include what the receiving bank would charge or not? (e.g. bank of montreal charges...

Monthly transfers salary from Europe to Canada

There will be fees for ATM withdrawals, and anyways everytime I have to pay bills/rent I would incur in either the 15€ charge for international transfer, or the 0.5% charge through Transferwise.

Monthly transfers salary from Europe to Canada

The institution paying my salary is German, so I had to open a German bank account in Europe. As far as I looked, any payment from European banks, in Euros to Canadian banks in Canadian dollars has fees starting from 15€/ transfer. That's why I looked into the 'cheaper' transferwise option...

Do I need additional private insurace with RAMQ?

Hi all, I am moving to Quebec soon and will sign up for RAMQ health insurance. After the 3 months when I'll take a private insurance, will I still need a supplement to the basic RAMQ coverage? I do not need prescriptions and do not have any special condition that would require me to visit...

Monthly transfers salary from Europe to Canada

Hi all, I will be receiving my salary on a European bank account (this was not negotiable) for the next two years. What's the best way to transfer part of it regularly to a Canadian bank for all my expenses in Canada? Transferwise seems the cheapest option but still changes 0.5%. Related to...

Postdoctoral fellowship LMIA exempt working permit

So finally the embassy replied after more back and forth about the global skills strategy: 'Please apply for a work permit with LMIA exemption and we will try to process it on time.' I'll just submit my application and if I don't hear in two weeks I'll then use the webform to contact them.

Global Skills Strategy: two week processing

Hi, I think we have the same problem, see some discussion here http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/threads/postdoctoral-fellowship-lmia-exempt-working-permit.513661/page-2 It doesn't state anywhere in the application where I can select the two weeks strategy, so I...
