Work permit processing in the US

This is the info I've received as well...applied March 19 online, still waiting. American, visa- eTA- and LMIA-exempt. IRCC informed me they're only processing "critical" applications, and will return to the rest when things go back to "normal." Whatever critical and normal means. No idea.

    Processing time: GSS stream

I don’t need a medical examination, or visa, or eTA.

    Processing time: GSS stream

I've also applied under GSS, and same. Applied March 19. However, I received an update from IRCC after sending persistent webforms. They are only processing "critical" applications, and will return to processing all other applications when things return to "normal." There is no definition on...

Who was denied entry to Canada on an open work permit even if you have an IRCC letter?

With a letter, you should be able to board the plane. Whether you'll be able to get into the country, however, is up to CBSA...they are very inconsistent during this time, depending on where you're trying to enter. Depends on the officer and their discretion.

Visa- and LMIA-exempt Work Permit: Online application vs. border?

I had an email correspondence stating the job is waiting for me, and able to start remotely while I’m in quarantine. Under the US-Canada order, the job does not need to be essential (it does for other foreign nationals, and those requiring a visa and eTA)...the agent was wrong to dictate what...

Visa- and LMIA-exempt Work Permit: Online application vs. border?

He was 1 of 2 officers there. Immigration isn’t too busy :p I’m not going to try again, at least not at that POE. I could try Sarnia (only ~45 min away), but I’ll likely just wait for online POE letter. If you’re American, nobody will prevent you from coming back into the United States and it...

^Yep. The dude was on a power trip, and I wasn't about to test him.

Visa- and LMIA-exempt Work Permit: Online application vs. border?

I've asked them, but their policy is that employees have to be inside of Canada (they can work remotely interprovincially, but not internationally)...idk why, but it doesn't seem possible.

Visa- and LMIA-exempt Work Permit: Online application vs. border?

Mehh it's alright. I know everybody's going through this one way or another. Yes, my app is still processing online. It's just a pain trying to contact them and actually get somebody in person.

Visa- and LMIA-exempt Work Permit: Online application vs. border?

WELP I tried! I got past CBSA officer no problem - he was very supportive. IRCC officer was a massive dick...basically, he told me he has the power to determine whether I'm essential or not, and what he considers essential is a doctor or a nurse, period. This is when I started ugly crying (can't...

Visa- and LMIA-exempt Work Permit: Online application vs. border?

Hi! Thanks for your concern, but yes, I am fully aware of Canada's quarantine requirements :) I'm fortunate enough to be able to work from home while I do so, and after start reporting in person. But this can only be done if I have a work permit to begin with...while my employer allows...

Visa- and LMIA-exempt Work Permit: Online application vs. border?

Hey all - considering the start date for my job was yesterday, I am going to the border tomorrow to try and obtain my WP in person (~30 min. drive for me). I'll let you know how it goes. The only thing that will likely be held against me, is my intention is not to enter immediately (because my...

    Work permit application and covid-19

Received this letter via online account today. "Please be advised that due to the exceptional circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, we are only processing critical temporary resident applications at this time. Once we return to a normal state, your application will be reviewed as...

Flagpoling by foot (no personal car)

Moving to Canada! My job starts tomorrow in Vancouver lol. I'm currently waiting in Detroit with my parents for hell to freeze over. But I've called CBSA and they were like, "yea, we can't guarantee entry at the Peace Arch, and that'd be a shame to go all that way." ...according to IRCC, all I...

Flagpoling by foot (no personal car)

People keep talking about traveling through Canada for the purposes of flagpolling as nonessential travel, but what about traveling *to* Canada for the purpose of activating a work permit? I'm American, and just waiting for my POE letter - I applied online March 19, and processing time estimates...

    SOWP Processing Time

There are definitely delays. I applied online March 19 - it was supposed to take 2 weeks, and I should have priority processing under the Global Skills Strategy. 6 weeks is tomorrow and still no response. I'm guessing the application is held up in the NY office (I'm American), or has been...

Visa- and LMIA-exempt Work Permit: Online application vs. border?

Thanks for your response. I'm thinking about just trying at the Windsor POE - if I do this, and I am denied/sent back, will this affect my chances at trying again in the future or my current WP processing online?

Visa- and LMIA-exempt Work Permit: Online application vs. border?

Hey everyone. I'm an American who recently finished my doctorate and was planning on driving up to Canada and apply for my work permit at the border for my new job - then COVID hit. It was recommended to apply online through IRCC (I am visa-exempt and my job is LMIA-exempt). I did so March 19. I...
