Thanks, I phoned the licence authority here in Manitoba (MPI) and they have granted me a 180 day extension with a full licence that I can use across Canada and exchange in Ontario when it expires.

I absolutely agree with you. If I recall the visitor status can be updated all online right? Unfortunately I might have to stick with the inland application because I won't be able to get a medical exam before the expiration of my PGWP. :(

Well it looks like the medical exam is going to be my undoing. None of the physicians are anywhere near where I live (northern Manitoba) and I won't be able to get to Winnipeg anytime soon. Besides that asking for an appointment over the next few weeks is doubtful. Nevertheless I will investigate.
