3 years without an interruption and by the time you apply, take test and actually receive your passport it is already around 4 yrs...so basically it's a 4 yrs frame till you get to hold your blue passport :P

Well as per my knowledge, you can apply for a new passport 6 months before your current passport expires..so you said your passport is expiring in Aug 2012...so I would wait till Feb 2012 and see how my case is going...hopefully inshAllah by then you will get you visa on your current passport if...
