I submitted my passport through VFS on the 8th myself, and still have not received it back yet myself (everything I submitted was within specifications). I don't think we need to worry too much, the official processing time for passports is 30 working days.

It doesn't matter that they aren't "missing" - CIC will return for anything deemed missing or incomplete. You're right that it's possible it could land with an officer who is in a good mood, and they might not return it. There's also a chance that they will. Impossible to say, unfortunately.

it is very much needed but you can do original pic(snap) collecting from the studio , it will show the date(if ypu put the cursor on it) of photo taken and send to the concern address by email. you have to assure them it is latest pic ans attach a foewarding letter mentioned with you...

Mine was for 1st time proof of citizenship. But you will find that is the requirement for all CIC required pictures, it's not a new requirement. It's even required for a Canadian passport. Like I said, I just forgot my name, the photographers info and date were on the back of the pic. Good luck!
