US Elections effects on Processing times.

We only have a couple pictures together in person (hoping to take the bulk of them when spending the year together). We'll get letters from family and I've been selecting a few screenshots of skype conversations per month going all the way back, and screenshots from skype calls. Plane tickets...

US Elections effects on Processing times.

I guess it's possible he could be here for 6 months and me there for the next 6 months depending on work situations. We don't want to marry for this, so we're prepared to provide as much relationship/cohabitation proof as we can get. I'm just worried that they'll start getting suspicious of...

US Elections effects on Processing times.

My boyfriend and I have a plan for me getting PR in Canada through common-law sponsorship some time after I graduate around May 2017 - I probably would work for a bit here first to save up before going over there for a year+ to qualify and apply. Are we going to have a hard time? You think by...

    Question about sponsorship.

I think it would be dangerous to let the officer think you intend to stay a long time. But once you're past the border officer, you can go ahead with sponsorship. CIC and the border are different beasts. Having the return ticket to show them is good. If you get in, you can cancel your return...

Questions about getting a NEXUS card

It's stressful not knowing what kind of officer you're gonna get next, lol. I was interrogated and had my bag raided and phone taken away at Vancouver Intl. Airport the first time, had a very friendly guy at Toronto Pearson let me in right away the second time, then had a bored-looking guy at...

Questions about getting a NEXUS card

You’re probably right that I’m worrying a bit too much… that’s something I have a problem with, haha. I’m definitely thankful that US/CAN couples generally have an easier time. But like Decoy said, I’ve seen a lot posts where people are denied entry at the border because they don’t have...

Questions about getting a NEXUS card

I'm just concerned that "wanting to visit my boyfriend" is a bad reason for applying for Nexus because CBP and CBSA might think it's sketchy or something... also 'yijiequ' above thought the same, so now I'm a tad more concerned, lol. I know that it's sometimes tougher to cross the border when...

Questions about getting a NEXUS card

Well I live very close to the Ontario border, so if I had Nexus, I would also be more willing to go over to Windsor for day trips that have nothing to do with visiting my boyfriend. Would it be more appropriate to say I would like to use the card for this purpose? I realize I'm pretty far out...

Questions about getting a NEXUS card

I’ve read good things about Nexus, but I’m not even sure if it would be for someone like me. I don’t travel to Canada often, but when I do, I would like it to be as smooth and pain-free as possible, and the card is only $50 or so. I only go about once per year right now to visit my boyfriend...

Crossing the border to stay for 6 months?

Haha okay, good. This is what I thought, but I felt weird about it because it's kind of fibbing. I was also worried because I won't have very many proofs of ties, i.e a job or lease, and I will be graduating from university before I attempt to do this. Maybe I could still register for some...

Crossing the border to stay for 6 months?

How do people cross the border when they intend to stay for a long period of time? I am American, my boyfriend is Canadian. Our plan is for me to cross into Canada, stay for 6 months, then apply to extend for another 6 months so we can reach Common-Law status. I have seen this plan used...

Guidance with sponsoring an american spouse to Canada

Aw man, do you think they'll really start viewing American applicants differently after the election? We won't be able to apply until sometime after and the thought has crossed my mind, hah. :(

Question about Skype chats for proof

Thanks for the replies, jul and Melissa :) Just to be clear, you only took screenshots of the calls and then copy/pasted the text convos? That's what I'm sort of doing right now, so it sounds like this would be okay :D

Question about Skype chats for proof

I think I will send a selection of both as well, maybe. I've just been copy/pasting because it's easier than taking several screenshots of one entire convo, but after second thought, it seems like it wouldn't be the best in the eyes of CIC, because anyone can edit a Word document. I dunno.

Needing advice-- outland, or inland, etc?!

I still have a ways to go before I can get close to applying, but I can attest that outland>>>inland, especially for US/CAN couples just from reading this board. ;) Inland apps are alluring because you have the ability to work while waiting for the app to process, however, processing time for...
