Inland spousal sponsorship - does she need to renew visitor visa?

Hi Chris, You'll probably get more responses if you start a new topic about this in the Family Class Sponsorship forum. I'm not expert, but based on what I know so far, outland is generally faster than inland. However, that depends which visa office is handling stage 2 of your application...

OHIP after outland stage 1 approval?

Yes, good to know! Thanks all for the feedback!

Inland spousal sponsorship - does she need to renew visitor visa?

Thanks, I hope so! We live together and she obviously can't work, so her proof of finances are basically my proof of finances :-) I provided records of my salary and monthly cheques from my company site, and bank records showing deposits over the past 4 months.

OHIP after outland stage 1 approval?

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. It's confusing, because in theory the outland application would not make one eligible for OHIP after stage 1, yet my wife's friend (and others) report that they have successfully done it. Only one way to found out I guess! I know that when I moved back to...

OHIP after outland stage 1 approval?

I'm hearing mixed messages about this, so I thought I'd ask : After my wife gets her stage 1 approval for an outland spousal application, can she then apply for OHIP? Her friend claims she was able to do this, but we're hearing from others that it can't be done until after stage 2 is finished...

Inland spousal sponsorship - does she need to renew visitor visa?

More complications lol. Applying for the visitor visa extension for my wife, I see that her passport expires March 2015! Since we're switching to an outland application, it means that stage 1 will be done by that time, but not stage 2. So does immigration Canada have any reason to extend her...

Thanks! Just out of curiousity, how do you guys know all this stuff? lol

Inland spousal sponsorship - does she need to renew visitor visa?

Interesting, didn't know that! Quick question : with the outland application process, after the stage 1 approval, my wife would have to leave Canada and come back in? And has the right to stay in Canada until stage 2 finishes?

Inland spousal sponsorship - does she need to renew visitor visa?

Thanks for the input, canuck_in_uk! At first I was surprised you somehow knew about the 8 year difference, but then I supposed you must have back-searched the forums? Either way, well done!

Inland spousal sponsorship - does she need to renew visitor visa?

Thanks, good to know! At this point I guess we'll have to decide if it's worth cancelling inland and going outland (which carries a small risk of being called for an interview in HK). I know the inland applications are being processed super slow in Mississauga right now, but I suppose there's...

Inland spousal sponsorship - does she need to renew visitor visa?

Are you not worried they'll call you for an interview? Of course, Paris is a lot closer than HK :-)

Inland spousal sponsorship - does she need to renew visitor visa?

Ponga, thanks a lot for all your feedback! My wife is from Taiwan (they use the HK office) - stage 2 processing is 8 months, and stage 1 is very fast (47 days I think). I think my only concern would be the medical check - we did an up-front one already and I'm not sure if we can re-use that...

Inland spousal sponsorship - does she need to renew visitor visa?

MissRepresentation, thanks for sharing your experience! I'm very tempted to do the same thing as you ... I think we'd want to have the visa extension in hand before we cancel the inland one though. Do you think you'll get your application fee back?

Inland spousal sponsorship - does she need to renew visitor visa?

That's very interesting. I just wish we had applied outland, but since she was already living with me in Canada at the time (July 2014), we assumed inland was the right way to go. And now we'll have to play the waiting game ... We'll apply to extend her visitor visa, and I suspect that should...

Inland spousal sponsorship - does she need to renew visitor visa?

I have also read that you cannot apply for an OWP at the same time as sponsorship, since January 2014.

Inland spousal sponsorship - does she need to renew visitor visa?

Thanks for the reply, Ponga! We will definitely extend her visitor visa, though I did read elsewhere : As long as you are not "removal ready" or eligible for removal for a basis other than "lack of status", the public policy is that the filing of an inland application stays further removal...

Inland spousal sponsorship - does she need to renew visitor visa?

When we applied for the inland spousal sponsorship, we believed that she would have the right to stay indefinitely in Canada while the application was being processed. But now I've read a few threads about getting a visitor visa extension during the process, or submitting a OWP ... so I've got...

Fiancee coming to Canada to marry, should she tell airport immigration this?

Taiwan is visa-exempt as well. When I say 'entering with a visitor visa', I just mean that immigration is letting her in for a period of time with the understanding that she is only visiting (ie. not for work or study).

Fiancee coming to Canada to marry, should she tell airport immigration this?

I'm not worried about her being able to enter the country on a visitor visa, this should be fine - I'm worried about what would happen if she mentions that we intend to apply for her PR in Canada afterwards. The general consensus seems to be : don't mention it. That, and make sure you have a...
