    My wife is in the Philippines. I am in Canada. So she is going through the Manila visa office. They did request some information near the end of October. Since then, only emails about free pre-arrival services. Nothing else.

    He can apply for a visa from the closest Philippine Consulate before his trip. Then he can easily stay past the 30 days. I've done this a few times when I plan to stay longer than the visa free period.

    I would say that the sponsor has the bigger responsibility. The sponsor is financially responsible for the applicant for 3 years after arriving in Canada.
