Can't you call in sick? that way you will be on paid or unpaid sick leave, and quit once you land. I honestly dont think you need to be working at the time of landing. I would not worry, even if you end up quitting. You can filter the forum and see what questions are asked during landing...

Thanks, I just tried. I didnt get through, but the status the automated message read out to me said it is still not approved. I will keep trying. Dont see why they wouldnt have received it, where the post office status showed received and signed for.

You do not need US visa to flagpole. Its an administrative refusal, not an actual one, and has no impact on your future applications for US visa. I did this, and later got 10yr US visitors visa. Average days? no idea. Id say its a matter of luck. Call them when you get your COPR, and will...

Its best to call them before you head out. I remember I was going to land wth my first work permit, and they told me its best to come Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm.
