chances are, the one you got in 2015 has expired. was there an expiry date on it? have you left Canada since submitting that certificate?

if there's someone out there with a name similar to yours that has criminal records, they might ask for fingerprints to make sure you're not the person in question. i provided my fingerprints upfront. otherwise you gotta just sit and wait.

i believe, generally accepted time frame is 3-6 months to process background check. mine has been in progress since November 1st.
