Hello, Did you have to do a new application for everyone involved or you only adjusted the error and resent the application as it was sent to You?

I just noticed my PR card expired last year but will want to apply for citizenship this month of July 2019. Is it legal and acceptable to apply using my expired PR card or do i have to renew it before applying? Please kindly advise. Thank you. Samm1972
