I had to renew mine... it expired right in the middle of my process. It's irritating to have to pay and go through the whole process, but I knew I wouldn't be able to get a passport for several months after the PR expired and I needed to be able to travel.

On the spreadsheet check the 'Processing Time Comparison' for a general ballpark estimate. Or, you can also look at the location annual tab for your city and see how other applicants in your city are doing. Keep in mind however that these are averages and you could be faster, or far slower...

The AOR from CIC takes weeks; you should be able to check the tracking number from the courier to verify that the application did arrive.
