No, you can't get a test once you arrive in Canada until you've cleared immigration. If they suspect you have COVID, you will be denied entry. It is not a rapid test. It is sent off to a lab and you get results in about 1-2 days. Both of my results have been within 24 hours.

The test upon arrival, if the study is still going on, is free and will be offered regardless, but it is optional. It happens after you've cleared immigration. Here's some more info on the study...

For the moment, you must quarantine no matter what - whether you have a negative test, from within Canada or without, does not matter. The test I received at the airport is part of a study that I think only runs through the end of the month. It's both saliva and nostril - they teach you how to...

    Question

Sorry, yes, I should have said that all of my figures are per person for the applicant only. And yes, the proof of funds is important! The application is structured in such a way that it is unlikely you cannot afford to apply, yet can afford to move and live in Canada.

    Voluntarily Renounce PR?

I just want to echo this. All the advice I have gotten is that you should _not_ give up your status voluntarily. You have a right to enter Canada as a permanent resident and you do not stop being a permanent resident the moment you stop meeting the criteria. You only stop being a permanent...

Why are you moving to Canada?

As an American, this is one of the hardest things for me. So many places are getting better - more liberal, more accepting, more open, less poor, less sick, etc. The United States isn't, and hasn't been for a long time. Canada certainly also has much of the economic stagnation of the US, but on...

    Question

There's some costs that are optional, and some that are not. For example, non-optional costs (all in CAD): WES credential assessment: $150-250 IELTS test administration: $300-350 Permanent residency application costs & fees: ~$1,000-1,200 including application, card, etc. Cost of getting a...

For those of us with expiring COPRs, will we be allowed to wait till all travel restrictions are lifted before entering Canada?

Ah, gotcha. Fair enough, whatever they say to do. Frustrating that you have to exist in that limbo.

For those of us with expiring COPRs, will we be allowed to wait till all travel restrictions are lifted before entering Canada?

I would not wait and let it expire - I would contact IRCC now and tell them you can't travel, and request an extension. That's the safest thing to do. Second safest, in my opinion, would be to land (provided you are honest).

Why are you moving to Canada?

That's a fair question. No, I'm not, for a variety of reasons: I am in a field where the average income, even in Canada, is so high that I can easily support myself - I could support myself on two thirds or even half of what I make now I don't have expensive tastes in most things, and I...

Why are you moving to Canada?

@Sid1307 @Jo1984 It's nice to know I'm not alone in these sentiments. In the States, it sometimes feels that way (though I have friends who share or at least envy my choices). My friends in Canada report feeling similarly as well.

Why are you moving to Canada?

I'm a US citizen. I decided to come to Canada because I was tired of living in a society that was actively hostile to my core beliefs and values, all while having the gall to pretend and proclaim otherwise. When the border guard asked why I was leaving the US, I said, "have you seen the US...

For those of us with expiring COPRs, will we be allowed to wait till all travel restrictions are lifted before entering Canada?

I think this is slightly incorrect, based on my understanding. The guidelines here say: "[you must be] be coming to Canada to settle permanently (you cannot come to Canada and leave to go live in another country, even if it’s temporary)". Now, in my experience, they are not asking any questions...

I didn't bring any food with me. I've successfully used Instacart, SkipTheDishes, DoorDash, etc. That's acceptable to the border patrol, as long as you have checked in your postal code and made sure such services are available. They all have good contactless delivery policies and the drivers...

    1. I will be going back to the US in the next couple of months, yes, but long-term I am moving to and settling in Canada. I anticipate going back and forth several more times over the next few years; that would have been the case regardless of COVID. Nobody asked me about my mid or long-term...

I did this last week. I'm a US citizen. I flew from Chicago-O'Hare to Toronto-Pearson and had no problems whatsoever. I pre-registered with ArriveCAN and put all my quarantine details in there. Here's what I experienced: Before the flight, an airline representative (this was an American major...
