If I were in this situation I’d consult with a reputable immigration lawyer because if you don’t follow the procedure correctly you get delays in processing.

Got an IRCC letter from Mississauga via email dated yesterday that confirms our application has been forwarded to Mexico City. So maybe things are moving forward at last.

Did you get a message from the Canadian embassy in Mexico that states “please send passport or come to Mexico?” If so,did they indicate whether the Canadian spouse can pick up the visa or does it have to be the applicant?

Ok , we shall see if Mexican visa policy changes. I already posted this info but am doing so again to help everyone- remember, I live in Cuba: According to the Canadian government web site all Cuban files will now be processed in Mexico. It can take months for a Cuban to get a Mexican visa...

I sent a DHL package to Cuba from Canada once. Never would I do so again. It went from Canada to England, then to Spain, and from there to Havana. And from there to Guantánamo. I think the only reason I actually got the package is because my wife’s aunt works in the local post office. She called...

From my MPs office today: “Applicants will no longer be able to pick up their visa at the Canadian embassy in Havana, Cuba.”

Here’s a puzzling statement from the IRCC: “Review of the BGC has not been started.” Does that mean the BGC has been completed, but simply not reviewed? Or does it mean the BGC itself has not been started. Anyone know precisely the meaning? Thanks in advance for any input.

No, my comments are based on experience, not opinion. 40 yrs of traveling in developing countries have taught me the best advice comes from those with personal experience that is not of the ivory-tower variety. But I do wish you well, sincerely.

I have spent a lot of time in POS - wander into the wrong neighborhood a block or two from where it’s safe and you’re gonna find trouble. It’s not safe to walk anywhere at night, nor to wear jewelry or watches that are worth $ Best places to stay are in the embassy district because there is...

Sounds good for anyone traveling to POS. It’s a dangerous city if you don’t know what you are doing. I have spent a lot of time there and it’s fine as long as you follow a few simple rules. Anyone is free to message me for info as to inexpensive hotels and guidelines for getting along without...

This is what the Canadian embassy in Mexico website says, and I quote: “Immigration and visas: Telephone: (55) 5724.7900 All the information regarding immigration and visas can be found in this website or in www.cic.gc.ca. Please be informed that the estimated time of reply is 20 working days...

I’m not sure about biometrics cut-off date, but a good Cuban friend of mine who got her PR last year told me it took a month for Canada to receive the medical results from Havana.

I just got a near identical email from the same office: “Departamental records confirm that this Application was transferred to the Canadian visa office in Mexico City. At this time, no interview has been requested. While I am unable to provide a precise timeframe for the completion of this...

I used their automated phone system, inputted the PR application number, and a nice computerized voice gave me the precise info for my file. As far as I can tell the only remaining step is the BGC - which is prolly already underway because they don’t update that item - and then the PPR.

We applied for PR in 06/2018. Since I currently stay full-time in Cuba my only option to call the IRCC was via Skype: 613.944.4000

Well, I was just explaining what I’ve seen with my own eyes. I’m glad your husband was successful. Since we’ve been there so much the immigration workers got to know us and only worked us over the first time. Btw flights with LIAT from POS to Barbados are cheap if booked well in advance. At...

To clarify your options, we have been to Trinidad and Tobago 3 times and once to Barbados. Firstly, almost no Cubans successfully get into POS. Local immigration always turns them around on the next flight out. Unless they are accompanied by their Yuma spouse and have confirmed hotel...

Panama visa is only a formality if the applicants have their plane tickets in hand and even better if they have been abroad before. I know lots of people who go to Panama regularly to shop. The Bahamas, on the other hand, is a different story. I don’t know what you’ve heard but I’ve never seeen...

Yes of course you are correct but we are 11 months into the application so I remain optimistic. And Mississauga has had our file for over a month - forwarded there after 10 months in Sydney- so they’ve already had plenty of time to change their minds. Anyhow, since they have ample proof that...
