I remember some one mentioned that every Wednesday of the week OCI portal update application status to "In process" from "No record fond". How accurate this info is? Who got their application status updated to "in process" on Wednesday? Just to figure out is there any schedule for them process...

OCI is just Not for mere travelling to India. It entitles you to certain status( OCI). It will be hard to get it processed quickly when you need.

No need. An explanation letter will do. I did the same but postal application. Now status shows "Surrender Cert Granted and available for issuance"

Forgot to mention, he need to get his Canadian passport before leaving for India. It shouldn't be a big deal applying for Canada passport while having his flight booking in hand. He can opt for urgent processing if there is a delay getting Citizenship cert and few days left for travel. It's...

In case you ignore this option: You can travel on Indian passport with in 3 months of acquiring foreign citizenship without penalty . Based on your timelines, you can travel on Indian passport and you can take care of rest once you back.
