When I did my application to be a sponsor (which was approved), the main goal of providing your income proof is to show you're not receiving social assistance. There is no income requirement for citizens as far as I know.

Thank you for your response. I guess the most logical approach is to not apply for the exit visa, but come back to Canada, and drive down to the US border to flag pole back. Have people done this flag polling thing successfully without issue? I haven't heard of this before until coming here.
