I received the approval letter today. We applied on 12 July 2024. My wife is the principal applicant for CWP and an SOWP for me. We have a Foreign Worker Ontario Nomination.
But why aren't we celebrating? Because the IRCC, as if this was an April Fool's Day prank, sent us a Permit that expires in October 2025. That's right; we waited for 8 months to get a permit that expires in 6 months.
The issue is my wife's passport. The passport used on the initial application back in July 2024 was only valid until October 2025. Therefore, my wife got a new passport and submitted a web form with the new passport. I guess they ignored it.
Is there a way to reverse this?
It seems like we have no recourse with the IRCC, no matter what they do. They can take as long as they want and decide whatever they want with zero accountability and repercussions.

So this is an extension for both her CWP and your SOWP, correct? Or it's a new CWP plus SOWP?
Did you apply with the new passport? Why didn't she apply until she got a new passport? (just want to understand the situation)
These are extensions.
In January 2024, we received our ITA for the Ontario Foreign Worker Stream. By July 2024, we had not yet received the nomination, but our 3-year PGWPs were going to expire on July 14. We had to wait until the last minute to apply to renew the WP because our consultant hoped our nominations would come, and she advised against renewing the passport in the middle of that process.
On July 12, without the nominations, we had to apply to renew the WP anyway in order not to be out of status. In October, we received the nomination and submitted it through a web form. That means that between July and October, our WP extension requests were based on nothing. Had they processed them, they would have been denied.
After receiving the provincial nomination and submitting our non-EE PR application in November 2024, my wife got a new passport and submitted it through a web form for the WP application.
Why did they accept a provincial nomination submitted after the fact but didn't accept a new passport submitted after the fact?
My consultant now says she'll submit a "request for reconsideration", but there are no guarantees nor any prediction of processing time.
The next steps are to wait for the non-EE PR application AOR - probably coming in May - and then apply for BWOP.
