Advantages:

  1. You don't need to submit your citizenship certificate for a passport
  2. You don't need a guarantor for your passport photos
  3. You don't need to go to service canada for your passport
  4. Super fast processing
Yeah @USProgrammer mentioned thus a few weeks ago. I sure hope I get offered this option cause I do not enjoy standing in lines for applications
I know lots of people would want this and I understand, but these really are not huge differences (no particular reason to think you're accursed if you don't get invited to the pilot) - unless you're one of those people who is so gripped by social fear that you can't deal with getting someone to be your guarantor or literally haven't known anyone for two years:
1. Submit application in person at a passport office, they scan it and you're done. (Granted you do have to include if you apply by mail)
2. Shouldn't be a big deal for most.
3. True. That said, as far as I'm aware, this is not a lot of standing in lines (now). From what I've heard, most places, not very much. (Yes, everyone hates standing in line. But these are not the six-hour line situations some people dealt with three or so years ago.)

If you don't like standing in lines - news flash, don't fly anywhere. You won't need a passport either.

4. I've had a number of acquaintances mention in the last while speak about super-fast service - faster thna promised, mailed to their places in two weeks or less (this is actual timing, faster than they were told). Service Canada now offering a guarantee of less than 30 days or free (I presume this doesn't include mailing time, of course). I don't know how much faster it can be for this pilot, really.

I'm glad they're doing the pilot, hope it becomes a new thing - hey, maybe they could include it in the final steps/oath ceremony. Just saying no need to feel particularly hard done by if you don't get invited to the pilot.

Ha ha you're funny. FYI, I pay for the express programs like global entry to avoid lines at airports; even if it means driving down to Buffalo int'l airport. I traveled 75% of each month glovally for work for about 9 years and I'm over the long lines for anything. So yeah, anything to avoid that. It's not about finding a guarantor or references or social anxiety in my case. we each have our preference and no, I won't be devastated if I don't get invited.

Oh I underline again - perfectly understand the preference, the online does sound better. Just saying what you said - not something to be devastated about. (Heck, even the by-mail service for passport application is not that bad, now that it's reliable - and you also don't have to wait in line).

That's right and if you send in a ecertificate, you dont have to stress about it getting lost in the mail because you can always print another one. I'm in love with the digital option.

Guys,

I have question on passport pilot program

1. I have digital photo which I uploaded during the application. In Requirement checklist it says we need to provide two copies of the same pic. So I am going to just copy the same and provide two copies. Is that right ?

2. My oath is on April 10th. I have sent the acknowledgement that I would participate this program and waiting for the connect - account confirmation. Can I just pay the amount and sign the documents, scan and keep it ready. When they will send the connect account details I will just upload these documents.
Is it okay to do this before oath?

3. I think somewhere it says we need to provide the back of the photo which has details time date etc of the photographer. So I can just click the back of photo from mobile and share this picture. Is that okay ?

Thanks a lot , Hopefully this will be helpful for others as well

Same here, do you think you’ll be opting for that instead?
yes of course! Passport office time is during my work hours and I’d prefer not to take a day off if there’s an option to apply online with fewer documents and a simpler process. I’ve already requested the Canada Post Connect link for digital submission.
We have option to apply before our oath but process with start once our oath will be completed.

Processing time went down to 8 months. So I guess IRCC is starting to stabilize their operations post layoffs. I expect this to go back down some more, possibly back to 5 months.
And it better not be an April fools joke lol

Except I called about LPP and it’s not started, same as last 3 weeks… :(
