Advantages:
- You don't need to submit your citizenship certificate for a passport
- You don't need a guarantor for your passport photos
- You don't need to go to service canada for your passport
- Super fast processing
I know lots of people would want this and I understand, but these really are not huge differences (no particular reason to think you're accursed if you don't get invited to the pilot) - unless you're one of those people who is so gripped by social fear that you can't deal with getting someone to be your guarantor or literally haven't known anyone for two years:Yeah @USProgrammer mentioned thus a few weeks ago. I sure hope I get offered this option cause I do not enjoy standing in lines for applications
1. Submit application in person at a passport office, they scan it and you're done. (Granted you do have to include if you apply by mail)
2. Shouldn't be a big deal for most.
3. True. That said, as far as I'm aware, this is not a lot of standing in lines (now). From what I've heard, most places, not very much. (Yes, everyone hates standing in line. But these are not the six-hour line situations some people dealt with three or so years ago.)
If you don't like standing in lines - news flash, don't fly anywhere. You won't need a passport either.
4. I've had a number of acquaintances mention in the last while speak about super-fast service - faster thna promised, mailed to their places in two weeks or less (this is actual timing, faster than they were told). Service Canada now offering a guarantee of less than 30 days or free (I presume this doesn't include mailing time, of course). I don't know how much faster it can be for this pilot, really.
I'm glad they're doing the pilot, hope it becomes a new thing - hey, maybe they could include it in the final steps/oath ceremony. Just saying no need to feel particularly hard done by if you don't get invited to the pilot.
