Length of previous common-law relationship - does this mean when you started dating, or just the time you were technically common-law?

On IMM5532 and IMM 1344, it asks for the length of your previous marriages or common-law relationships. In my case, I have a previous common-law relationship.

Does the start date mean the time that you started dating? Or just the time that you were technically common-law (as of the time that you lived together for 1 year)?

Do you start your common law relationship with your partner after your first date?

I'm guessing this is a rhetorical way of saying that it should be just the time that you were technically in a common-law relationship, not from the time you started dating. So thanks - I guess? Hoping someone else will chime in with a straight answer.

The language isn't very clear because it says "length of relationship" which I understood to mean the WHOLE relationship, prior to the time you technically became common-law.

If unclear, then the time of entire relationship (is how I interpret the question about previous relationships).

IRCC itself is not always consistent about usage. I would say when did a common law relationship start uses same logic - but since when are you common law means after 12 months residing together . IMO.

('when did a relationship begin' could mean since first meeting or become exclusive or residing together or however one wishes to consider - some judgment needed. )
