Minors – Subsection 5(2): does the child need to be physically in Canada, when the application is submitted?

Hello everyone!

When applying for citizenship for a minor through subsection 5(2), does the child need to be physically within Canada, when the application is signed and submitted? Of course, the applying parents will be in Canada, but the child will be outside of Canada visiting grandparents in home country. Is it an option?

The same question during Oath - does the minor need to be in Canada, even though the child does not need to attend the Oath ceremony (should be <14 years old by that time)?

Thank you!

The kid doesn't need to be in Canada for the whole process, including the day you sign the application and the oath day.
The one thing to pay attention to is the need to cut the PR card. Not sure how it's done or whether you need to have it with you during the ceremony in case the kid is still outside the country. People who went through it should be able to clarify that specific point.

Thank you so much for the insights! Yes, the PR cutting portion during the oath ceremony is still unclear to me.

Anyone else that had gone through the process can help further clarify? Thank you in advance!
