Do Processing Times Vary by IRCC Office for Citizenship Applications?

I’m trying to understand how IRCC assigns offices for citizenship applications. Does your file automatically go to the local office closest to where you live, or can it be sent to any office across Canada? Also, do processing times depend on which office handles your application?

I’d like to hear from people who have noticed differences in timelines based on the office processing their case. If you’ve already received your citizenship, which office handled it, and how long did it take?

There is no rhyme or reason to why any file had gone to which office. I applied in Vancouver, but my file in the past 24 months went from Sydney to Domestic RO (I still don't know where exactly is this) to Vancouver and now to Calgary. I am in the believe that this has to be the most mismanaged and dysfunctional agency in our federal government. No wonder they just got 3300 positions slashed.

Sorry to hear that. How do you know which office is handling your application?

Unfortunately I think it's going to be a pretty nasty one, looks like I need to go get a lawyer :(
Do you know what caused this delay? Were you a refugee before becoming PR, are you from Middle East by any chance? This is beyond crazy! If you're not in security and they're not finalizing your application, it's time to lawyer up asap!

Not refugee nor from middle east. I am actually working for the provincial government, which just adds insult to injury. Nothing makes any sense....

I wonder. Since you work in government they might be worried that after citizenship you might share the data with your old home country, and that could be the reason they flagged it as non-routine. But if it's not in security screening then lawyer up for sure! It's very possible that they just forgot about your file. A notice from a lawyer should get things moving and you'd get answers.

Huh? I work for a CANADIAN provincial government....
And about the information sharing, it has nothing to do with the citizenship, it's more about the employment, no?

Well, it is likely that they just forgot about your file. Time to lawyer up asap.
