If you haven't started already you can contact a certified translator to avoid these problems. That way you won't need any notarization and an affidavit.

I have. It takes half a day to complete the exam, and a day to get the results. Unfortunately I do not remember how much I paid. They are very helpful with questions, when you call them.

Same thing happened to me. I deleted the work history and explained in a LOE. My application was approved. But do not forget to mention his experience in personal history section.
