Changing college within 10 days of the first semester, with an offer letter of a new college for next intake, so there will be 4 months gap. Will this affect PGWP?

Change college within 10 days comes under "actively studying while you’re in Canada" ?, As per one of the conditions of changing college.

No, this doesn't come under "actively studying while you're in Canada". If you want to switch colleges within 10 days, you need to apply for a brand new study permit.

If you do not want to apply for a brand new study permit, then you need to complete at least one full semester with your original college before you swtich to your new college.

I found this link https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/study-permit/prepare-arrival/study-permit-conditions.html#s01

Its says
As a study permit holder, you must:

  • be enrolled at a designated learning institution (DLI)
  • show you’re actively pursuing your studies by:
    • being enrolled full-time or part-time during each academic semester (excluding regularly scheduled breaks)
    • making progress towards completing your program’s courses, and
    • not taking authorized leaves longer than 150 days from your study program
And this comes under authorized leave
It counts as authorized leave if

  • your school has authorized a leave from your study program for
    • medical reasons or pregnancy
    • family emergency
    • death or serious illness of a family member
    • any other type of leave your school authorizes
  • your school has closed permanently or because of a strike
  • you’ve changed schools
  • you or your school deferred your program start date
    • In this case, you must start your studies the next semester, even if it starts sooner than 150 days, and get an updated letter of acceptance.
You can’t work on or off-campus during an authorized leave from your study program, even if your study permit says you’re allowed to work in Canada.

You are planning to leave your first school within 10 days of the first semester. This means you aren't actively studying and you also won't be on authorized leave. You will have effectively never started your program.

This topic has been covered multiple times in the International Students section of the forum.

If you want to switch schools without completing at least one semester of study, you need a new study permit. End of story.

Hi scylla, wondering if the same thing applies for me. I completed my first program in Canada in April and my second program is supposed to start in September. I also got a study permit extension for the same. Now I wish to change my university.

Do I have to reapply for a new study permit extension or simply transfer DLI? New program has the same length, just a different university. But the program hasn't started yet, do I need to reapply for a study permit extension?

I am thinking about changing colleges because in the past I had a rather heavy academic load. I'm currently preparing a big report on Puritan New England and the only thing I found on the Internet that is more or less decent on this topic is this article here - https://edubirdie.com/docs/arizona-state-university/hst-200-historical-themes/48438-purtain-new-england, which describes the topic well. Maybe I will manage to complete this task and I hope I won't spend too much time on it.
If you change colleges within 10 days of starting your first semester and have a gap before your next intake, it might raise concerns regarding your Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) eligibility. To stay compliant, you need to maintain full-time student status and remain “actively studying.” A gap of 4 months could potentially affect this. It's important to inform IRCC about the change and ensure you're following the guidelines, as breaks longer than 150 days can impact PGWP eligibility.
