Only under Vancouver jurisdiction allowed both application together .

The check list in the Vancouver jurisdiction says to submit a copy of surrender certificate but as you and others have said that we can submit OCI and surrender certificate together. Thats why a confusion.

I dont think so; you can send a postal application if you dont want to wait till May, it might get processed sooner rather than submitting in May.

checklist for surrent of indian passport, says to provide photocopies of passport in A4 paper. Is A4 paper needed or letter size will be sufficient?

A4 or Letter size doesn't matter. Letter would be acceptable.

Try booking appointment under visa section u might get it in march last week.

I uploaded my indian passport as my proof of indian roots but I didn't clicked finished and existed the window. Now, how to I access that same website? When I go through the OCI website with temporary ID, it says that I should you my File Reference No. So, I am not sure if the document was uploaded or not. Also, I got the access to download the pdf of the application under the Uploaded Application it says my previous passport. So, I am not sure it the file got uploaded? Or if there is any other additional step that I have to do.

Question regarding applying for OCI while being in India.

I am expecting the citizenship oath invite any time soon. My plan is to take the oath in Canada and travel to India immediately after the oath, since I am employed in India. I will be using Indian passport for this travel. I understand this is legally allowed, since at the time of the travel I am not a Canadian passport holder yet.
My cousin will forward the citizenship certificate from Canadian address to my Indian address. Once it reaches India, I am planning to apply for Canadian passport at the Canadian consulate in India and thereafter surrender Indian passport and apply for OCI status, while being in India.

Has any one recently applied for Canadian passport and OCI while being in India? Could you share any issues faced during the process?

This is a bad idea, unfortunately you would have to deal with too much of bureaucracy because you cannot enter india with Indian passport & have an exit stamp in another passport. Indian immigration guys will stop you & I know someone that had a two year ban on entry to India while attempting this.

your best bet is this:
2. Apply for OCI/Visa once you get your Canadian passport.
1. Get your Canadian passport after oath.

or
Do Oath & get certificate.
Get Canadian passport in India & use Indian passport to travel to Dubai/visa free country. Use Canadian passport from there to enter Canada.

Too much hassle. Avoid it. You'll have to apply for Canadian passport in India (easy). Then apply for Indian passport cancellation (can be done but could be hassle), get a tourist visa (I think can be done but again hassle). I don't know if you can apply for work visa. I know for sure that one cannot apply for OCI on tourist visa.

I'll share my (actually my wife's) timeline below:

- Oath: Jan 18
- Citizenship certificate received: Jan 26
- Applied for Canadian passport: Jan 28
- Canadian passport receipt: Feb 1
- Application for visa+surrender+OCI: Feb 1
- Received visa: Feb 6
- Received surrender: Feb 17
- Received OCI: Mar 3

We travelled to India on visa on Feb 23. My friend will carry the OCI to India. I plan to call FRRO and ask them to change the status from 'visa' to 'OCI'. Let's see if it can be cone, will apprise all!

Can I do surrender + tourist visa in Canada and then later apply for OCI in California? Does one need to be citizen of the country in which the OCI application is being made?

Or can I give a friends address in Canada for OCI application and have them mail it to me?

Yes, you can do Surrender + Entry visa with BLS in Canada. Once you move to California, you can get submit your OCI application there (I think VFS handles OCI applications in the US).

Also, I submitted my OCI form last monthand it is under process. So I am filling up my son's OCI form. Regarding the question" if anyone in the family has applied for OCI before " should I say yes or no ?
