Just have this question, after I got my refugee claimant document and the work permit, could I apply for the provincial health care? I have to go to emergency the other day, and the hospital told me they don't accept the blue cross insurance for refugee claimant. :(

That is super weird they should accept it. I don’t think you can apply right now. When you are convention refugee you can.

I know, but unfortunate the local hospital accepts it, but the doctor fee is separate which the doctor doesn't accept blue cross federal insruance.

Super weird i went to hospital too once. With the refugee coverage and both doctor and hospital accepted it.

If you don’t mind me asking which kind of treatment did you require. It is possible that treatment is not covered

Contact IRCC, because doctors should accept it

If you are working over 6 months than you can apply for Ohip for ontario.
But hospitals do accept for any kind of treatment

Were you seeking treatment that could be done at a GP or did it require the ER? Some doctors don’t want to deal with IFHP because it takes a long time to get reimbursed and it is a lot of extra paperwork. This must have been a small hospital if there wasn’t multiple doctors.

It is a small hospital. I suspected to have a kidney stone went to ER, but the doctor told me he doesn't work with IFHP and also the refugees. He did help me with basic examination and didn't ask me to pay for it. Then he told me to find a family doctor. I called a couple of family doctors and they all told me they don't accept IFHP though they are listed on the IFHP lists. Do you know what should I do? Should I seek medical help from a big city in the province?

if they are listed in ifhp coverage they have to provide the coverage. I suggest you call ircc and talk to them they will help you

Calling IRCC is hard, they never pick up the phone. I feel I have a better chance to find a doctor accepts IFHP than getting help from IRCC, but thank you! Planning to go through IFHP doctor lists in my province to see which doctor can help.

you have to keep trying to phone to get thru ircc. For refugee claimants they usually do pick up
