Some of the advise given above is not completely accurate. Let me explain the difference.

• You can think of a Lawyer as a jack of all trades. They do not specifically study Immigration Law in school, they may touch some aspects and areas of it. Nevertheless they are approved to offer immigration consultation services.

• The only difference between a Lawyer and RCIC, is that a Lawyer can represent you in Federal Court whereas the RCIC cannot. However, before your application goes to the Federal Court, it will need to exhaust all provisions given in the Immigration Act. This means your application will need to be presented before a Tribunal. A RCIC can represent you in front of the tribunal and most application decisions are made at the tribunal level.

• A Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant, also known as "RCIC", have gone through the rigorous education, passed language testing and passed the rigorous examination to become licensed. A RCIC is well versed and knowledgeable about Canadian Immigration Laws.

• In order to become a RCIC. The candidate needs an IELTS score of Listening 8.0 and 7.0 in Reading, Writing and Speaking. The RCIC at Daya Immigration Services has an overall IELTS 8.0. This means that clients who hire us can rest assured and feel confident that their application is being handled by a competent consultant and all written submissions will be professionally prepared and submitted to immigration authorities.

• In order to become a RCIC, the candidate must also be familiar with all areas of Canadian Immigration and be able to pass a rigorous 3 hour exam.

• The RCIC must also prove clear criminal record from all jurisdictions they lived for more than 6 months after turning 18.

• Many clients will say that they can themselves put together a Canadian immigration application and many websites will say the same, but this is only true for putting in a very "basic" application. The truth is that no amount of research, knowledge will be sufficient to successfully put a thorough Canadian immigration application together. A RCIC is familiar with how the immigration officials will assess a certain application based on Canadian immigration laws. To simply put, we are familiar with how the "law" is interpreted and applied towards your application. You might have a perfectly filled out application and may meet all the requirements, but still obtain a rejection because your application did not meet certain objectives.

• Many clients are fixated on a certain type of application or immigration program, because they are convinced that it is the only program that works for them. Often times there can be more immigration programs which are overlooked. A RCIC can help you choose the best program.

• Many clients who do not understand how Canadian immigration works, end up paying $50,000 to $100,000 to unscrupulous illegal "ghost" consultants. They feel that they do not qualify for any program, this is the time that a RCIC can step in and find programs that a client can qualify for and save the client from wasting that $50,000 - $100,000.

• A RCIC can provide a customized strategy for your immigration goals. Even if you do not meet the requirements of any immigration program in Canada, we can still counsel you on your short-comings and suggest you ways you can become qualified for Canadian immigration.

• Not everyone can become a RCIC. To be a RCIC as described in the first bullet point requires training and passing an examination, meeting language scores and providing proof of no criminal record. It requires strict adherence to CICC by-laws to remain in good standing with CICC.

• Immigrating to Canada is a big major life decision. Immigration applications can take years of processing. What may look like a simple application, a small mistake can cost lot of time and money. It is therefore recommended to use an immigration professional for your application.

• An immigration consultant will not only advise you on the content related to your immigration application, but can also develop a long-term strategy. Lets face it, even if you get your permanent resident you still have to work and earn a livelihood. Many immigrants are not able to find a job in their chosen field and have to choose very low paying jobs. We provide career coaching and guidance for no charge to our clients.

Fact is, most of these RCIC consultants and senior lawyers don't do applications by themselves, but they have subordinates/staff who work on those applications. They are only there to bring clients in with their initial consultation and then hand over them at the mercy of their staff. And that staff keeps changing because they are not well paid.
