So I learned that quebec has an exception that allows some private schools to issue pgwp... and I'm about to pay the tuition for an ACS in international business, a 9 month course, in Greystone College, montreal. Bc canadian dollar is low rn, and I'm low on budget.

If I'm being honest, idk if pr is my main goal... I really want to have the experience of living and working in canada and then decide if its something I want for the rest of my life. I know private colleges have a bad reputation in canada, but the fact that this particular course is pgwp eligible means anything different? Im not looking for an amazing education, but I really didnt want to go a place that is mostly cash grab scam... give me your input on this, please?

It's a complete waste of money IMO.

Private schools have bad reputation and offer poor levels of education. So you'll be spending a ton of money on a worthless educational experience.

Studying for 9 months will get you a 9 month PGWP which is pretty useless. The only reason this would make sense is if you NEVER have plans to live in Canada permanently or become a PR. Otherwise it's a terrible plan. A 9 month PGWP won't help you to qualify to immigrate and you'll be throwing away your one chance at holding a PGWP (you can only apply for a PGWP once in your lifetime).

A few private schools in Quebec also recently shut down and basically went bankrupt. Students are out thousands of dollars (e.g. $10K, $15K) and aren't going to get their money back.

If you're willing to roll the dice on all of that by all means go ahead. I personally think you'd be better off staying in your home country and studying there at a real school. Private colleges and universities in Canada are garbage and a joke. These schools basically exist for international students. Canadians stay away from them because we know they are garbage. I wish they would shut them down and not victimize international students.

Just to reinforce this last bit - private colleges are closest to a cash grab.

Amazing education = top rated public universities and a limited number of public colleges
Good education = other public univeristies and most public colleges
Crap education + cash grab = private universities and colleges

You would be better off coming to Canada for a six month holiday and just traveling around. Way cheaper and you're not being scammed out of your money.

IMO you got it backwards.

Personally, I would shut down all the PR programs allowing foreigners to come and immediately have access to Canadian social security and benefits. It should be through Canadian education only. It creates jobs for Canadians since high paying education jobs are far between. These private colleges would get better over time as well. It needs to be like Australia or the US. Right now, Canadian immigration is like a charity to be honest and Canadians are victimized by it (have you looked at the tax rate?). Even the US (much richer than Canada) allows illegals so that they pay taxes and not get benefits. The research shows that immigrants hurt immigrants who came earlier to the country.

Also, I know personally people who teach at top public universities and private colleges, the same people, the same material. I know one of the instructors just used to play a recorded video during his classes at this top public university, whereas he was doing a live class at one of the garbage colleges.

In fact, Canadians who went to these colleges said they were pleasantly surprised and how they liked the individual attention they got because of small class size. Public universities have 300+ students in a lot of classes.

One of the reasons, I would say has to do with the tradition and selection, these public universities select the brightest because by tradition everyone wants to go there. Employers hire from there because they are lazy to check who is smarter and who is not. Tech sector is changing this, I hope it continues.

Another thing is public universities seem good because they have professors and research, but they don't give anything to undergrad students. Professors hate teaching undergrad classes because they complain too much without doing much work, so they teach only 1-2 classes per year. Who wants to deal with 300+ entitled babies? Some profs with lots of research only teach Master's and PhD's.

So, I would say that the quality of students is low in private colleges, not the education. I would also say that if a person is relatively smart, they should go to these colleges, because they can get good education and they will be the super star of their classes. I have seen such students and they got scholarships later on. It's better to be a big fish in a small pond. Such students also got jobs, PR, lots of examples.
If the person is so so, they should go to public universities, because the name of the university gets them a so-so job at least.

Also, top public university tuition for international students is much higher than the tuition in such private colleges.

So, I would say close these programs or clamp down as much as possible, give more of them to those who studied in Canada. I would also say add a stream for highly talented people like in the US, who actually can make a difference, the rest of the immigrants.. are garbage with useless degrees and useless experiences.

Do you work for a private college? Long track record of poor education and high tuition leading to low paying jobs at private colleges.
