Test on teams - Work

Hello,

i have to do the citizenship test on MS teams with an officer and I know it’s going to be during the week. But I work full time. I don’t have any sick days or personal days or vacation at my job. And my job is unprofessional so im scared of asking for that day off to do the test. I’m just worried they don’t accept to give me the day off and I don’t want to call in sick because I called in sick one day in 2 months and I’m worried it wil’ be too much. Anyone did the test on teams and successfully asked his employer for a day for citizenship and they accepted ?

As for the time off problem, and this is my opinion, I would tell them I am feeling unwell, it could be Covid and I need to have a covid test done as an excuse. Also, it may be time for you find yourself a new employer.

thank you for the suggestion. If I tell them I have Covid they will ask me to work from home lol. I can’t really find another job right now.
i did the test and passed but my camera got disconnected for 2 mins and they said I have to redo it on teams it sucks.

Do you have a private place at your job where you can take the Teams test? If yes, you could go to work and then let your supervisor/colleagues know that you have a meeting with the IRCC at a specific time and that it would last for so long. When the time for the test comes, you go to the private space and take it.

I am concerned about your employment situation. You appear to be scared and worried about simple things like taking a sick day. No matter how 'unprofessional' your job is, there are labour laws in Canada that must be obeyed.
It is either you are in a toxic work environment, in which case you should report and start looking for another job immediately, or you have the 'immigrant mindset' and have refused to explore and take advantage of all the perks available to you at your place of employment.
Afterall, you have legal status and this is not a third world country.

Do you get a lunch break at your job? So instead of taking your break you could take this test during that time? Just a suggestion. Most employers should accommodate you for stuff like this that are super NB to us as potentially new Canadians. Like the other poster said, maybe it’s time to find a job where you are appreciated more.

Yeah thank you for your suggestions! I would rather take the whole day off cause I wouldn’t want to be stressed before the test. And I’m super new to the job that’s why I’m worried they wouldn’t accept my day off because I’m still on probation. And I’m just worried they don’t accept if the test falls on an important day where I’m supposed to finish a project with a deadline and I’m the only one who can work on it.
