Hi everyone,

I wonder if the sponsor and co-sponsor (myself and my husband) have to be present in Canada during the time the application is processed? I may have an assignment that requires me to be in the State and I am not sure if we can work overseas while sponsoring my parents.

Another point, if my status during the processing time changes from PR to citizen, do I have to notify CIC about this change?

When did you submit your application?

Did you leave any fields blank on that form IMM5406? Also did you complete full addresses? I believe its for PA and dependants only. But you have to fill out each section as well as full addresses. If something not applicable then put NA.

I submitted November 2, 2021. I left the email blank for Section C - Siblings, which I have now completed. All addresses are accurate.

I believe the reason it was returned is I initially didn't include myself under Section B - Children, I have now included myself along with my 3 siblings who are over 30s and independent.

Do I need to also complete separate forms for all my 3 siblings and myself? This is the only thing confusing

You can order a copy of the Proof of Income Statement (option "C" print) to be mailed to you by calling the automated Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) line at 1-800-267-6999. It can take up to 10 days to receive the Proof of Income

Yes they can do basic medicals here. If more extensive testing is required it may not be possible because of long waitlists for those who have provincial health coverage. They will always be prioritized.

For everyone panicking, AOR usually is 6 months from date of submission so anything early is a bonus. Most of the people are in the same boat that they havent received any communication which is alright considering the time.Just think of receiving communication after 6 months and you will be fine. Relax !!

PGP is a long process. Many are waiting over 2 years so I wouldn’t try to obsess daily about potentially getting any form of notice from IRCC. If not you’re going to drive yourself nuts. Would also caution parents not to move to Canada until they have received approval? Lots of things can happen within a few years and if they are in Canada there is no guarantee that their stay can be extended until they receive PR. Recently someone parents were denied an extension but they had already sold their home and stuff in their home country. Until you getPR nothing is guaranteed.

Process takes anywhere between 12-24 months. But receiving the AOR typically 2 months from the receipt of the application. But then it was my snail mail. But this year since it is online, not sure whether they would send AOR.

Receipt of AOR indicates your application has been reviewed and is complete and correct. NO missing information. Typically one should get a req for Medical within 6 months.

Very few are getting approved at 12 months and many are taking 24 months.

You are supposed to be in Canada to be able to qualify to sponsor your parents. The whole point of the program is to reunite parents with their children living in Canada. LICO could also become an issue. Not all foreign income counts towards LICO especially if you are not living in Canada. How would you be paid, how much time will you spend in the US, etc. i would speak to an immigration lawyer.

I also got an email with the request for IMM 5406 for both parents - PA & Dependant. I was wondering if my parents 4 children [myself inclusive] have to complete and sign our own copies?

if your siblings are not dependants in IMM0008, they don't need their own 5406.
you are already PR/citizen. you don't need your 5406.
But you still need to fill in your/their details for your parents' 5406 forms.
