I've had to spend 1 year outside Canada due to covid-related family obligations, travels restrictions, flight bans etc. However, I kept working for my Canadian employer full-time remotely all this time, paid rent every month on my apartment in canada, and paid all taxes etc. So, I was wondering if I can count the time spent outside canada towards citizenship application?

Not entirely so. There are situations where days outside Canada can be counted ... working for a Canadian company, accompanying a Canadian-citizen spouse, et.
Those two scenarios only count for PR RO. Not for citizenship.

1. Actually entirely so. The discussion is citizenship, which requires actual physical presence in Canada. (exception diplomatic corp, military)
