Hello friends

Since the test passed this summer, and its validation on the tracker, nothing at all. I'm still waiting. (Request sent in October - November 2019, test canceled in April 2020, then resumed this summer 2021)

In the meantime, on my side, I contacted a lawyer specializing in immigration to initiate a mandamus, he advised me to first make a request for access to information as well as one or two questions by contact form:

According to him, it is necessary during the mandamus to be able that one has already taken steps beforehand, efforts to join ircc .

According to him too, the story that it is better to wait 2 years before initiating mandamus proceedings is not certainly true, the real problem is that the court can give the benefit to ircc in view of covid... But it's worth it to try (while trying other channels before and be able to prove it).

I wonder if contacting the MP where I live can be a good idea too, what do you guys think?

Can anyone share a sample letter to contact a federal deputy's office?

If someone provides us with a standard model letter to contact their MP here, I could translate it into French and leave it here, so that everyone can use it.

Thank you

, Piotr.

MPs can't influence or expedite an application.

My two cents is to focus on mandamus. That's the action that's most likely to get a reaction from IRCC.

Good luck.

I contacted my MP. They make you fill out a form to act as your representative with IRCC and they follow up on your application. They can't expedite your application but they can get someone at IRCC to actually look at your application. I think that the more people contact MPs, the more noise it creates and more pressure is applied on IRCC.

Thank you for your answers.

Thanks to @phoenix111 for his testimonial.

Is there a standard letter template to share, please?

Of course, I am only looking for a model to guide me. Information will vary from person to person.

I undertake to translate, improve, and share here a model in French also for deputies in Quebec, or in New Brunswick, or for all Francophones.

There is already a thread on "mandamus" stuff; you might find it useful to look at that. "Wait for 2 years" is not a requirement, but it would be reasonable in normal times, when most applications would be processed within 1 year. With covid, 2 years will probably not be considered unreasonable, especially considering that you just took your test in mid-2021.

Contacting MP is probably a waste of time. The most they can do is get information that you can easily get on your own by asking for GCMS notes.

This is what I wrote :

Dear MP XYZ,

I am writing to request for assistance in finding out the status of my application for Canadian citizenship.

I applied vide no. Xxxxxxxxxx on dd/mm/yyyy which IRCC started processing on did/mm/yyyy. The current status on the system is xxxxxxxxxx and have not heard back from I RCC despite repeated requests.

I would appreciate if you could help me get an update on the status of the application.

Thank you

xxxxxxxxxx

They will then send you a consent form which will need some personal details and a consent from you to source your info. My first two emails went ignore. Finally I got lucky on the third try with their office.

Might be clutching at straws but I am at that stage where I want to explore all options before shelling out a few grand on mandamus.
