For Study Permit Extension, Is Proof Of Funds Really That Important?

I'm in an urgent situation and could really use some help.

I'm nearing the completion of my program, and I want to extend my study permit. I've heard conflicting things regarding how much funds you should have in your account. Most official help websites say that you need to have $10,000. But some others users here have said that they have applied with just $3,000. However I don't know if they have a job as well, and whether that contributed to the application.

I'm a full-time student and I don't have a job. I currently have around $3,000 in my account. And for monthly expenses, my Dad helps me out by sending money each month. He's written me a letter that states that he'll send me each month. So in my application, can I just put my current bank statements (which show $3,000) and my Dad's notarized letter?

Is this too weak? Somebody please help, because the college has already given me the enrollment letter and I need to send my application quick.

You must have sufficient funds until the new date of your desired Study Permit's extension. That is, you would have to show funds until your desired extended date of your Study Permit:
1. tuition fees (if required),
2. living expenses.
3. you don't have to show $10,000 ($13,134 if you are studying in Québec) unless you are extending your studies for a year.

Yes, simply ask your father to fill out a letter of support that he would be willing to pay for your tuition fees (if required) and living expenses and scan the document to you, his bank statements (for 4 months preferably), your bank statements.
No need to notarize the letter of support. Simply ask him to physically sign, and scan the document.
If you are worried they may ask for the actual letter of support you can ask him to send the physical copy to you as well, but my experience the scanned copy should suffice.

I did the exact same process mentioned above last year and got my SP Ext application approved!

Thanks! I sent the application and included 4 months of my Canadian bank account's statements. I included my Dad's statement and my home country's bank account statement as well, however I only included the latest month of those. Was this a mistake? Is it necessary to show 4 months of all bank statements? Or is that only for your Canadian banking account?

I included the letter too.

It would've been better if you provided statements for 4 months, but i guess they'll know from seeing your Canadian bank statements for 4 months that your father keeps sending you money from time to time.
