The minute this Meurrens guy said he has filed mandamus for a Mach 2020 AoR, and got an approval on the application, he lost his credibility for me.
Highly unlikely.
More of a marketing stunt for the two guys, rather than an analytical assessment of existing data.

Wait a min In the link posted above .It is mentioned clearly how covid processing delay is classified.
For eg if you filed your application on 2018 jan and you didn't get any reply then you can file it because covid is not a satisfactory explanation for your delay.

But for aors after Aug 2020 (including me) this won't work because, the delay can be explained under covid circumstances
He said that he applied for someone who applied in March 2020 and got application processed and approved within 30 days. Doubt he is lying.

So, I found this, and I think it matches what Meurrens says: https://atimmigrationlaw.com/writ-of-mandamus-faq
Search for "When it comes to Covid-19 related delays in processing permanent residence applications, this first step is often sufficient in pushing IRCC to continue and/or complete processing within 30-60 days of filing." That's what he was saying.

Agree. It's very dumb to put "Software engineer" as In-demand NOC and expect them to move to NB or Saskatchewan; coders will move to Big-3 (Vancouver (Amazon), Toronto (Uber, FB, Google), Montreal (AI center)).
There is a logic to this. Not all want to immigrate to the big 3 cities. My friend from India has a bachelor's degree with 10 plus yrs of IT experience and he did poorly in IELTS multiple times. He has no confidence in getting a job for a PNP invite because his English is pathetic. So his choice is a PNP program without a Job offer and where IT is a demanding field. I can say that there are many such folks in India who are only targeting these provinces. There are different types of Software engineers in India:
  • Good English, good skill ( These folks choose Big 3 cities or the US or stay in India for a Fat pay)
  • Bad English, good skill (My friend falls in this category)
  • Good English, bad skill
  • Bad English, bad skills, and knowing how to survive.

That can be because, I am not ruling the possibility of cancellation but it is highly unlikely for the simple fact why are they stopping the draws and the mandate letter has stated specifically that ircc is targeting to reduce backlogs. Like @seadrag0n said if they are taking a huge draw yep we are fucked .
I thing it is an advertisement of mandamus that he did.
But again we are dealing with IRCC so anything is possible.

I see your point. However, IMO, your friend is minority. Most of software engineers worldwide need to speak english due to English being a primary language for self-development in dev. community.

Again, taking India as an example introduces a bias.

Right. So a certain part of the video is that Meurrens says that every year that FSW applications don't get processed, the likelihood of them being cancelled increases by 10%. He also says that there is a high pressure on IRCC to invite CEC people due to them being out of status at some point.

He is very biased towards CEC which is very clear. Still, it's one thing to read those predictions from people here, and another thing listen to a lawyer.
He wants people to file mandamus with him. He’s a lawyer and wants clients. That’s it. IRCC won’t cancel because it will create a wave of lawsuits. Having an AOR now is completely different from 2012 when applying was basically like entering the pool. They would lose every case.

Hmm. 3k is reasonable but 10k is a little harder to justify at this point. Obviously in the grand scheme of things, it's nothing.
The guy explained that IRCC doesn't normally want to let the madamus thing to go to court so they process the application otherwise you need to pay 10k for a court hearing.

Yes. The point he is making is to reduce backlogs, IRCC can go ahead and cancel applications and bring back processing down to 6 months.

The Meurrens guy successfully accomplished his objective which was to create panic and then to introduce Mandamus as a way out which apparently was successful with his clients. He got exactly what he joined the live stream for.

I have a bad feeling that after this video, IRCC will actually take it all the way to courts.
