Hi everyone,

I'm having a closed work permit in Canada and currently working here for ~ 2 years.
I recently got married and we tried getting a Visitor Visa which was denied because of family ties and purpose of visit.
My wife is currently in India.
I was anyway planning to get a PR under CEC, but now I'm confused between two options:
a) Should I apply PR separately and sponsor my wife in a separate application, or,
b) Should I apply a PR as a primary application and add my wife to the same application?

Would really like to understand and need your help to understand the difference between these two approaches and what would be the impact on processing times and complexity.

Thanks in advance

Your wife has to be included in your application as accompanying or non accompanying.

@Naturgrl What would be the impact on application processing or what is advisable (I'm already in Canada and she is in India) regarding accompanying vs non-accompanying?

Your score may go up or down. You need to figure out it with the CRS calculator. Has she completed ECAs and IELTs? Again, does it improve your score as accompanying? What score will get you an ITA as accompanying or non accompanying?

@Naturgrl Both of us have completed our ECA(WES) and CELPIP(G)
CRS scores:
a) non-accompanying: 519
b) accompanying: 499

There is a 20 point difference.

I think last cutoff for CEC draw was 462. Is it expected to increase this year?

I would go for accompanying so that when you get PR so does your spouse. You don’t have to sponsor her after you get PR. What the next draw’s score will be is not known.

My only hesitation in doing this is I'm already living in Canada and she is in India. Does that affect the normal processing timelines?

It should not. If you don’t then you have to wait to sponsor her. Sponsorship takes another year to process after PR.
Thanks for clearing this doubt up for me. I was very worried about this situation, have never encountered someone who can recommend what to do in my case. Thanks so much.
