Do documents need to be notarized?

Hi,

My brother-in-law's multiple-entry visitor visa expired on Dec 31st, and we are applying for a new one.

When we applied (for the first time) in 2018, I was very very thorough and I went to a notary to get our invitation letter and our declaration of financial support notarized.

Now that we're up for renewal, I wonder if it's actually necessary to have those documents certified? It's not specified on the CIC website, but I thought at the time it would get us the best chances.

So, has anyone here had a visitor visa accepted with just those documents plainly signed and not notarized?

We're applying in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

Thanks!

1. If the list documents doesn't say notarized/certified, then they don't have to be.
