For a person in India waiting for his Canada PR post-AOR, can an Canadian employer apply for his work permit?

I've submitted my application for PR. AOR 2/12/2020. Due to covid things have been delayed.
In the meanwhile, can a Canadian employer apply for my work permit?
If yes, what all should be taken care of?

Are you in Canada or outside. If outside, your employer needs to file for a LMIA and show no one could be hired in Canada. Then wait and employer gets LMIA, you apply for closed work permit. It will take months.
