Does this qualify as a reason for urgent pr card processing?

Service canada requires a valid pr card or copr issued within a year of becoming pr in order to provide a SIN. However, i only have an expired pr card, copr issued in 2012 and a prtd issued under h&c(rc-1)but do not have a sin since i was a minor at the time i stayed in canada(2012-2014).

I am most probably not going to be given a SIN, however, i found out i can apply for pr card right after landing since my prtd is issued under h&c. So i was wondering if i could put the reason of "needing a pr card for issual of SIN" in order for urgent processing of pr card?

Even minor children are able to get their SIN, so I'm not sure why you did not get yours.

Certainly nothing wrong with trying - list every possible reason why you need it as soon as possible. I doubt anyone could tell you in advance whether they will accept those reasons though.

Do also try to write an explanation - that Service Canada no longer accepts any other documents that you could get, and your parents did not get for you when a child.

I don't know if you've followed other threads on this topic - but you should also try contacting your MP's office and asking for their assistance. And if there are any labour law or immigration lawyers you could consult (there are some organisations that advocate and might provide info about how to approach the topic).

The pitch to the MP's office is straightforward: you are in Canada legally as a PR; Service Canada no longer accepts COPRs older than one year; and so effectively a legal Canadian PR is being prevented from getting a SIN and working for a government-created documentation problem (the govenrment itself knows that you are in the country legally as a PR). And unfortunately IRCC has no direct responsibility to convince CRA/SErvice Canada, the most it could (hypothetically) do is provide confirmation of status.

Hopefully at some point some other way of getting Service Canada/CRA to provide you the SIN would come up, but certainly pursue both through MPs office. And any other path you can think of.

Hopefully at least MP could support urgent need for PR card.

Good luck.

you are able to use your old SIN
If you don’t have a valid PR card and your SIN# is dormant others have stated that they’ve needed to show that they have a valid PR card to make their SIN# active. This is a fairly new change because of problems with fraud associated with #
SIN#s. Believe that was in Ontario. What are others experiencing and in what provinces?
